While Private Lessons are not required to be in band, those who are taking private lessons from a district-approved private instructor will progress at a highly accelerated rate.
A Private Lesson Instructor can create an individualized program for each student in the same way that a personal trainer would individualize a development program for a professional athlete. A student who begins this process from Day One in band and continues it throughout his career will have a tremendous advantage.
Private Lessons are a considerable investment in time and money, but for those who are serious about playing it is a "must." Many, many students in Mansfield at all levels are already in the private lesson program. For students to be successful individually and as a group when you get to high school, lessons need to start now!
The most successful players in high school, All-State Band members, start taking lessons from their first day in band (or before!). The most successful high school bands, those who consistently earn State Marching Band and State Honor Band titles, have the greatest number of students involved in private lessons. In today's competitive atmosphere, private lessons are a necessity.
We have the BEST kids in the world right here in our schools! They deserve the opportunity to compete at the highest levels in music!
If you can afford lessons, I recommend that you have your student start now. They are a GREAT investment in your child's success. Personal example: even though I teach percussion and my wife is percussion section leader of the Mansfield Wind Symphony (the best kept secret in town!), our daughter has been in private percussion lessons since day one of band. Private lessons (plus a lot of practice, of course!) is the reason she was first chair in the all-region band.
When you can play confidently, knowing that you have mastered your music, playing becomes seriously FUN!!
